Maybe it was an A with a partial upgrade. I think you could get away
with the second VIA, the extra 16k of RAM and a few other chips to let
you run all the model B software. I think i've seen the actual list of
what's needed somewhere, possibly the service manual.

Regarding LEDs, the Caps Lock LED on my beeb is quite a bit dimmer than
the others, I presume because it's spent many many more hours on.
