The easiest way to get that approximate effect is probably just to take
two Econet/Ethernet gateways and couple each one to a Wi-Fi router.  It
wouldn't work quite the same as what you're proposing, but it would
certainly be a lot less effort than designing a custom radio transport
layer for Econet.
