I think Peter (samwise) already put it much better and calmer than I could. If there is a general consensus that the reply-to issue is enough to make people want to start a new list then it needs to be in a managed way.
The worst possible scenario is for the community to end up being divided by the existence of more than one list as we are already a very small group and the small size I feel works well as unlike many mailing lists this one doesn't seem to suffer the classic mailing list cycle of growing to the point where flame wars start and then people leaving and killing off the list. We seem like quite a friendly bunch that even tolerate a lot of strictly off topic conversations on subjects such as RM systems etc.
I think that greater effort needs to go into resolving the situation properly, it seems there are some issues at the moment contacting James but that doesn't mean it is impossible, it might be possible that he can be contacted and the whole thing can be resolved with a few seconds of his time to change the setting before trying to start a list coup.
To be honest I think the thing that annoys me most is that I got drawn into it when really It is not such a big issue but it seems to have got a lot of attention and I find myself perpetuating that. If the list moves I think just setting up alternatives and seeing who joins is not the answer, ideally we would move lock stock and barrel.
Perhaps I'll call my list coup d'état, what will people call their lists I wonder ?
